The History of Kittatinny Youth Lacrosse Club

Formed in 2007, Kittatinny Lacrosse provides training and competition for boys and girls in third through eighth grade, as well as high school boys for the Kittatinny Regional High School District.

In 2007, after several years of contemplation, the first two youth teams were formed thanks to the determination of two local dads . . .

Bob Jellinek and John Major grew up in Maplewood and Summit where every kid had a stick in hand. Although they grew up in neighboring towns, they met when their daughters joined Hampton Rec Soccer. These two dads embarked on a mission to bring lacrosse to Kittatinny. With a small band of interested parties joining their cause, the initial sign up brought in a whopping 40 players to make up two teams, one consisting of fourth, fifth and sixth grade and a seventh and eighth grade team. These players became known as “the Originals”.

In 2008, over 70 kids signed up for the youth program.  With the assistance of George Morville, the plan to expand into the high school went into motion and almost 30 students signed up at the high school level.  A junior varsity high school team was formed in additon to having three youth teams, doubling the number of teams in the 2nd year!

Three of our 8th graders were selected for the NJ All Star team and at least half of our high school team participated in summer and/or winter leagues, on their own time, at their own expense.

In 2009, the high school had 40 players sign up, enough for two teams, and the youth had enough boys to divide into four teams itself. Our high school team had a record of 15-1 in only their 2nd year of play. Kittatinny Lacrosse is growing strong!

Since our founders have daughters, the time came to start a girls team. 2009 saw the addition of two girls teams consisting of third through sixth graders.  That’s right, in just two years time, Kittatinny Lacrosse had gone from two teams to EIGHT full teams!

In 2010 we had our first varsity team in the high school, three full teams at the boys youth level, and two full teams at the girls youth level.

Our 2010 8th Grade Boys team went 15-1 to win the North West North Division Championship. There’s no better word than AMAZING!!

To all of our supporters we say “Thank You”.

Without you we could not have grown into what we have with such success.
